Origami sculptures are very nice and make great gifts. Even though they take some time and patience to make, the end products are very rewarding and look really cool. All New Origami Sculpture, more commonly known as 3D origami, is an intriguing form of paper art.

All New Origami Sculpture is made using multiple triangular units that are joined together to form a continuous design. Each triangle is made from a rectangular sheet of paper, which means you can mix multiple colors and patterns to create a more life-like model.

Learning how to make the triangular units that form the base of all 3D models is a vital skill for anyone interested in this type of All New Origami Sculpture.

Different projects will require that you assemble the triangular units either in the mountain position or in the slide position. All New Origami Sculpture is an example of mountain position assembly. Insert the tabs of one unit into the pockets (slots) of another unit.

When assembling 3D objects, it is important to insert two different units into the pockets of one unit. This staggering of the units will make the sculpture more secure. This is the same idea as when you are laying bricks, you want to have the brick offset so it straddles two bricks. In contrast, when making 2D objects (like rings or linear objects), you insert the two tabs of one unit into the pockets of another unit. For All New Origami Sculpture models, you do not need to stagger the pieces.

To make your first 3D origami or origami sculpture unit, cut a sheet of square origami paper in half. The exact size of your square doesn't matter, although 6 inches is a good place for a beginner to start. If you use a 6 inch square of paper, you'll have two sheets of paper that are 6 inches long and 3 inches wide. Place the first rectangular paper horizontally in front of you. Fold the paper in half horizontally. Make a guide crease by folding in half down the vertical middle, then unfolding. Here in All New Origami Sculpture you can find some inspirations.
