There are some things that may seem small and insignificant but when present would make Christmas more fun. Eggnogs, Christmas socks, colorful sweaters, mistletoes, and of course, delicious candy canes!
Whether you use it as a design, a Christmas tree ornament or a snack for younger guests, having candy canes around during the Yuletide season makes it more fun and exciting. Now, you can wear it on your nails, too. Plus having candy cane nails will look awesome with those fluffy Christmas sweaters!
Creating candy cane nails doesn’t have to drain your creative juices too much. In fact, it’s actually pretty easy! I can’t wait for you try this design on yourself or your friends and have fun while doing it.
Step 1: White Canvas
Start off by painting your nails white. Make sure that you use a solid white base and not the sheer kind to make your candy cane nails look more like the real thing. Also, don’t forget to prep your nails and apply base coat before applying the white polish to keep your nails healthy and strong.
If you want to switch things up a bit, you can also use silver as the base instead of white.
Step 2: Tape Over White Nails
Cut up strips of washi tape for the stripes on your candy cane nail art. Washi tape is the perfect tool for tape nail art because it sticks well but comes off quite easily when needed. It also doesn’t rip off the nail base nail polish. Just make sure that your base is completely dry before putting the tapes on.
Step 3: Paint The Stripes
After making sure that all the tapes are in place, paint over them with a bright red nail polish. Paint your nails as you would without the tapes. Make sure that the small gaps between the tape and your nail is covered as well.
Step 4: Reveal Stripes
While the polish is still dry, peel off the tapes to reveal the white base underneath. Peel off everything to see the candy cane design. You can also clean up the edges of your nails (if you got paint beyond your nails) with an angled brush dipped in nail polish remover or acetone.
Step 5: Make Glossy Candy Canes
To lock in the design and make your candy cane nails last a bit longer, apply fast-drying top coat. Additional tip: apply the top coat along the lines of your candy cane stripes to avoid smudges. Once that first layer dries up, then you can add another layer of top coat to make it glossier.
And now you have adorable candy cane nails to go with your Christmas look!
