The hectic pace of life in this city that never sleeps can sometimes leave us gasping for breath. Fortunately, the eagerly-awaited Christmas season – a month with lots of public holidays – has come around once again to help us all take a deep breath, wind down and enjoy the rich festive spirit. To celebrate this cheery Christmas season, this issue of IN TOWN is taking everyone for a leisurely walk through all the things that make this time of year so special!

Counting down the days to Christmas is exciting, but it can also be an overwhelming experience because of all the planning and preparation work that needs to be done to have the best time possible – which is why it’s always nice to have a helping hand in the kitchen! Everyone has a different idea of what they want to do for their loved ones – some want to cook a whole table of food for their friends and family, while others prefer to concentrate on getting the decorations just right to create the perfect ambience. And yet others may choose to spend the holiday cycling along the river in Sha Tin with their friends, followed by a fun and relaxing picnic in the park. If you like to relax and unwind by spending some time on your own, you could even just stay at home and watch that movie you’ve been meaning to see for ages, and perhaps follow it up with a good book to relax a brain that has doubtless spent most of the year being over-worked.

For people who want to show their affection during the Christmas season, gift-giving is not only a must, it has the power to create sweet memories that last a lifetime. However, don’t forget to treat yourself too! Why not go on a little personal shopping spree to prepare for all the Christmas parties and gatherings that the coming weeks will bring.

In this issue of IN TOWN, it’s our pleasure to borrow the words and photographs from some amazing talents in the media industry, including veteran photographer Celia Cheng, renowned DJ Jessica Tse, and last but not least, Yan Yan Cheung, Hong Kong’s “most romantic husband”, who has become famous for his sweet social media postings.

It’s worth remembering that love isn’t just for romance, it also needs to be in our relationships with family, friends and even how we feel about ourselves. Love is such a powerful thing, it can last for decades. Whenever you see a picture of a precious smile that once made your heart flutter, or re-watch a movie that touched you deep down in your soul, or even just walk past a shopping mall where you have many happy memories, that simple reminiscence can remind you how profound love is and help strengthen you for the journey of life.
