SEPTA Key is the future of fare payment with one reloadable, contactless chip card that offers a host of options for seamless travel and self-service flexibility. The SEPTA Key Card can be loaded/reloaded with a SEPTA Pass or money in the Travel Wallet to receive the same discount as you would using a Token and/or a paper Transfer. You can protect your Key Card balance in the event of loss or theft right here on septakey.org, so it's important to register your card as soon as you purchase it.

With a Key Card, the days of swiping to pay your fare are over – all you need to do is tap at the red Validator and ride thanks to the contactless chip inside of your card. Key also brings a full service self-serve fare purchase system with the introduction of the Fare Kiosk. At the Kiosk you can buy a Key Card, load/reload a fare, as well as check the balance on your Travel Wallet. Kiosks accept credit, debit, and cash—just check the signage on the equipment. The Fare Kiosk also sells a Quick Trip for customers without a Key Card who only want to purchase a single ride fare.

All buses, trackless trolleys, trolleys, and the Norristown High Speed Line now have red Validators attached to the previously existing fareboxes. Customers using a Key Card tap it on the Validator screen to pay. Those using cash or tokens will continue to put them in the farebox. At NHSL stations with operational farelines, customers using cash or tokens should insert their payment into the Kiosk in exchange for a Quick Trip ticket that can be swiped at the turnstile.

All station farelines on the Broad Street and Market-Frankford Lines are outfitted with red Validators for fare payment. Key Cards loaded with a fare product are tapped at the Validator; Quick Trips are swiped through the swipe reader. Customers using cash or tokens should insert their payment into the Kiosk for a Quick Trip ticket that can be swiped at the turnstile. Fare Kiosks are available at all stations for Key Card, fare, and Quick Trip purchases with debit, credit, or cash.

New gating, turnstiles, and ADA entrances with Fare Validators are now operational at all Center City Stations Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. During these hours, you must swipe your legacy pass at the turnstile to enter the station. To exit, just go through the turnstile—no swipe required.
