WaterSoldier - An App to conserve water by reporting leaks and wastages online

WaterSoldier is a unique App designed by a NRI Software Professional and launched by "The Humanity Founcation" as a humble answer to the sever water shortage faced by city of Mumbai and Maharashtra. The App helps reduce the water wastage in leaking pipelines, valves, tanks and canals by letting users report those online and THF sharing this information with concerned authorities, thus helping save water and save lives.
With super simple design, a user seeing a leaking pipeline/valve/tank/canal/dam wasting water around them, can raise a request to report leak within about 30-40 seconds. The user answers to some very simple questions like the type of wastage, severity of wastage, duration of wastage and address etc. The App features help the user answer easily to the best of their information. User can upload upto 4 photos of the leakage and surrounding areas thus giving vital clues to identify and fix the leakages. User can also specify his location and approximate distance from the leak and provide details while submiting a request. User gets ticket number on submitting followed up by an email with all ticket details.
The data is tracked in a web server which is monitored 24X7 by database management company appointed by The Humanity Foundation. The DB team checks reports, finds out the responsible authorities who have jurisdiction over those leaks and share a dashboard, actionable report to the authorities within 24-48 hours.
The authorities can fix the leakages based on the reports and thus precuious water can be saved which can be used to save lives.
The App is currently being launched in the city of Mumbai/its suburbs and shall be expanded later to other parts of the country at an appropriate time. The App is available in 3 languages - English, Hindi and Marathi and the user can choose the one he/she is comfortable in.
The App is free of cost, unique and very simple to use and can track the phone location upto 3 feet distance.
If used properly the App can help bring down the water leakages and wastages significantly. It also propagates the message of being responsible citizens to report wastages and care for the society.
This unique initiative is definitely a constructive steps towards "Digital India" and eGovernance with the responsible citizens and NGO's coming together to help the Governening bodies by sharing critical information about precious water leakages thus contributing to water saving. This is supported by Rotary Club of Ulhasnagar which is affiliated to Rotary International District 3140 comprising of areas of Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane and Bhiwandi.
